Van trucking serves for delivering relatively large cargo over quite long distances in the shortest possible time.

Originally, the word van meant a big carriage for transporting loads. Today the van is a spacious auto for transporting large stores.

Van capacity can enclose up to 24 tons of cargo. Van dimensions depending on the make range from 55 to 120 sq. m. that enables transporting cargo of different dimensions. Possibility of unloading vans by crane offered today by many forwarding companies is also favourable.

Tilt-covered semi-trailers (18 wheelers)

The 18 wheeler is a universal semi-trailer most widely used for transporting 20 ton loads. The design of these semi-trailers (18 wheelers) allows removing the tilt, the sides, the bars for side loading long goods and if required disassembling the frame. This makes this type of body one of the most common and actual in all types of city, long-distance and international transporting. Standard capacity is 33 europallet.

The isometrical van is used for transporting loads which do not require strict temperatures. The isometrical van just keeps the original temperature of the cargo within a short time and cannot insure its stability during long transporting over long distances. It is necessary to use a refrigerator while transporting over long distances.

The refrigerator or more precisely the refrigerator semi-trailer is a vehicle equipped with a refrigerating unit that is able to keep the temperature regime inside the body ranging from +12 ° C to -20 °.

The task of refrigerator operation is creating and keeping pre-set temperature and humidity regime in a cooled body during storage and transporting of the cargo providing safe operation of the equipment.

Refrigerator semi-trailers are a necessary stage of a non-stop cold chain as they keep the temperature necessary for storage and rehandling cargo from one stage to another. The importance of auto refrigerators are especially high for the regions with significant distances between points of production of goods that require cooling or freezing and points of their further processing, storage and consumption.

In contrast to isotermic semi-trailers with insulted bodies refrigerators are equipped with a refrigerating unit with a system of automatic keeping low temperature in the body.

Classification of refrigerators

Depending on the temperature regime inside an empty body (at the average temperature outside the body from +30°C to -30°C) and exploitation purpose refrigerator semi-trailers are divided into the following classes:

The work of the cooling unit of the refrigerator is to provide necessary temperature parameters in the body of the semi-trailer during at least 12 hours without additional service of the installation. This classification is set by European rules of transporting perishable goods APR Europe.

The refrigerator certification is conducted due to APR norms adopted by Geneva agreement of 01.09.1970 on international transporting of perishable foods and special transport vehicles aimed for this transporting. There are standard identification codes FRC, FRB, FRA, FNA matching refrigerators of classes C, B, A with reinforced isolation of the body and class A with common isolation.

The most common and actual type of refrigerator semi-trailers is class FRC.

Based on factory tests European car factories producing refrigerator semi-trailers issue the APR certificate for 6 years. During exploitation providing that the refrigerator semi-trailer satisfies technical requirements and is successfully tested the certificate can be extended to 3 years three times. The APR certificate with identification code is necessary for exploitation of the semi-trailer in Russia, CIS countries and EU countries.

The hard van is not universal; there is no option of upper and side loading in consequence of which it is rarely used.

Jumbo

The tilted semi-trailer of large capacity. This is achieved by a special L-shape platform and a reduced diameter of the wheels of the semi-trailer. The tonnage is up to 240 t. Working storage is 96-125 cbm.

Number 110 and number 120, the super train is a common name for vehicles allowing to transport maximum tonnage (110, 120 cbm) on the roads of general use without special permission. This auto complex (the super train) in contrast to the 18 wheeler consists of an auto and a trailer equal or different in capacity and tonnage which depends on the design features of a particular vehicle. In this combined characteristics remain 120 / 110 cbm / 20 t.
